PORTFOLIO: Writing & Graphic Design

Written Work – by Michelle Takara Fairbairn

Writing has been my primary creative practice since childhood—a way of making sense of the world, documenting lived experience, and translating complex ideas into accessible narratives. I am especially drawn to stories of impact and transformation that center on place, identity, and community through imaginative world-building or grounded, real-world reporting.

I hold a Master’s degree in Journalism & Media Communications from Colorado State University, where I developed a strong foundation in narrative analysis, visual media, and qualitative research. Through my work with Gary Community Ventures, I continued refining my practice in service of mission-driven communication, strategic storytelling, and public engagement.

Graphic Design | Graphic Animation

My work is grounded in visual storytelling and creative problem-solving. From the days of sketchbooks and spray cans to contemporary multimedia production, I have developed a versatile, professional practice that integrates concept, aesthetics, and audience-centered communication.

I work across a variety of digital creative suites, including Affinity, Illustrator, and After Effects to produce branding materials, motion-graphics, and multimedia campaigns. Through projects with Gary Community Ventures and EVMG, I have created work that blends imagery, typography, and animation in service of clear, impactful storytelling.

This section features a selection of recent design and animation work, highlighting my ability to translate complex ideas into engaging visual experiences. I approach each project with curiosity, intention, and a commitment to thoughtful, mission-aligned communication.
